NAIROBI – SAMBURU – LAKE NAKURU – MASAI MARA [BY ROAD] [6 DAYS / 5 NIGHTS]

Day 1 :: Nairobi-Samburu //..

Depart Nairobi in the morning by road to Samburu Game Reserve, located at the rugged northern semi-desert region of Kenya. Samburu Game Reserve is a wild and little-visited wilderness well known for its spectacular scenery and wildlife not found in the south. Reticulated Giraffes, the rare Grevy’s Zebra with its large furry ears, the Gerenuk antelope which stands on its hind legs to feed and the Somali Ostrich – males with their distinctive blue legs. Lunch upon arrival at your lodge then proceed on a game drive. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 2 :: Explore Samburu //..

Full day in Samburu on morning and afternoon game drives. You may see Elephant, Cheetah, Leopard, Eland, Oryx, Impala, Dikdik, Waterbuck and a variety of birds. This lava plain includes a varied landscape of thorn scrub, broken volcanic rock, dried riverbeds, steep hills and rocky outcroppings. Following the river’s curves, a forest of Doum Palms, Acacia and Tamarind trees are a magical contrast of cool green during the rainy season, and pure brown during the dry season. Other areas of the reserve include the Uaso Nyiro River, where crocodiles sunbathe on the banks. It also provides an oasis for a variety of game. Birds are abundant – with 365 species recorded – one for every day of the year Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 3 :: Samburu-Lake Nakuru //..

Depart after breakfast and proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park, first arriving Nyahururu Panari Hotel in time for lunch. After lunch continue to Lake Nakuru National Park for an afternoon game drive enroute to your lodge. Lake Nakuru’s claim to fame is anchored on its flamingo’s and the over 400 species of birds found here. The lake itself is a soda lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. The lake has also earned a reputation as an important haven for endangered species, particularly the Rothschild Giraffe, the Black Rhino and the White Rhino. However, Lions, Waterbuck, Buffalo and Baboons are also resident here. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4 :: Nakuru-Masai Mara //..

Breakfast at the lodge then drive across the Great Rift Valley to arrive in Masai Mara in time for lunch at your lodge. The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe; over 100 animal species have been recorded here by day and by night. You will easily see Lions, Rhinos, Hippos, Crocodiles, Giraffe, Wildebeests, Zebras, Buffalo, Warthogs, Hyenas, Jackals, Wild dogs, Buffalo, Leopard and a variety of plains antelopes. It is in the Mara where one of the most spectacular events of natural wonder of the world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Behind them are predators of the savanna – Lion, Cheetah, Wild dog, Jackal, Hyena and Vultures. Depart for an afternoon game drive until dusk. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 5 :: Explore Masai Mara //..

We spend a full day in the Masai Mara on morning and afternoon game drives. The trees in the distance might turn out to be a family of giraffes. Those clumps of bushes may be a pride of lions, and the rock that is moving – a rhino lumbering out of your way. With extra luck, you may encounter a family of cheetahs, or a herd of Elephants crossing right in front of you. Large animals are not the only entertainment – a family of warthogs may amuse you run as fast as their little legs will carry them, until they forget why they are rushing, stop to regroup. Between the game drives, there is an opportunity to visit an authentic Maasai Village – an included highlight of your safari. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Today is when you have an opportunity to fly over the Mara in a hot-air balloon at extra cost of US $ 500.00 per person. The balloon package includes a champagne breakfast in the wild – an unforgettable experience!

Day 6 :: Masai Mara- Nairobi //..

After breakfast, return to Nairobi arriving early afternoon. Included lunch or dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant, and a day room at the Panari Hotel, Nairobi will serve a great purpose. Day room extends till 19h30 – the time to be transferred to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight. Meal Plan: HB
