The Great Wildebeest Migration Spectacle is already with us …
Somewhere on earth there is a movement of mammals on an immense scale – The Great Wildebeest Migration – from the Serengeti [Tanzania] to Masai Mara [Kenya]. Over two million animals make this annual journey in search of greener pastures, and water available in the Masai Mara National Reserve during the months of July through October.
This year the herds were witnessed crossing the Sand River last week and our guests at the Mara River Camp which is situated at the confluence of the Mara and Talek Rivers, had a thrilling moment observing herds of wildebeest, hartebeest, topi and zebra crossing the Mara River in spectacular fashion.
Without doubt we now do confirm that the herds have finally arrived in Masai Mara! This arrival is the beginning of quite a show that contributes to the magic of Masai Mara and has led to it being named “One of The Nine Wonders of The Natural World”.
Not easy to find any leftover room in the Mara, but we can on short notice try to book any *fast paying client(s) somewhere. *[Fast paying client means client ready to pay on the spot].

Dear Follower,
Some rains have reached us after a long time which had turned into a serious drought here in Kenya. No doubt so many wild animals died reducing our livestock and wildlife populations by big margins.
On the side of tour bookings, all to say is FAIR DEAL! We will have our wheels turning during the months of July through September as it used to be, then we will see from that point on. We did not engage in any marketing yet, neither ITB Berlin [March 07 to 09], nor WTM Africa [April 03 to 05], nor WTM Arabic [May 01 to 04]. We hope to attend WTM London [November 06 to 08].
If this promising trend continues, we shall have no excuses not to visit with all our partners – locally, regionally, and internationally to re-boost our morale – we want to see this happen before the atmosphere changes again.

This year is already showing good news. Covid – 19! More than Two-And-A-Half Dead Years !!!!

Over 2.5 years missed …
Unfortunately, in Kenya we have seen many businesses in the hospitality industry close down. To mention a few – Intercontinental Hotel Nairobi, Nairobi Hilton Hotel, Grand Regency Nairobi, while others have exchanged ownership – Serena Mountain Lodge, Samburu Lodge, Larsen’s Camp, etc. In the tour operators’ sector, we don’t know how many of us went under. We shall only prove when we no longer see them again. It has indeed been quite a challenge to for many – including us – to return afloat. But we can remind you that we also survived all the effects of Operation Desert Storm, 1998 Nairobi Bomb Blast, Operation Enduring Freedom, Westgate Terror Attack, All Past Travel Advisories, and COVID -19! We are not only lucky – we are SMART! We hibernate.

Two-and-a-half years of COVID – 19 are finally behind us ….
We are delighted to announce that we are now 6 months since back to work, after those miserable past 2 years of COVID. Hope things are good, or at least getting better on your side too. As we speak, life is long back to normal up here. Quite a number of international safari-outfitters and international airlines have resumed full operation to our destination.
On top of the previously required documents, namely; e-Visa, & Certificate of Vaccination Against Yellow Fever, now only Certificate of Full Vaccination Against COVID-19 is needed to enter East Africa. Of course – one’s own personal protection against malaria too.
We are optimistic 2023 shall be a GREAT BUSINESS YEAR for all of us. We are witnessing our industry coming back, and your rebound shall be very highly appreciated and celebrated.

Like a slowly approaching wave, the Great Migration makes its way ever closer. It’s that time of the year again when we gather along the river banks and wait patiently for nature to enthrall.
A month ago, we witnessed a false start of the migration – thousands upon thousands of wildebeest stormed into the Mara Triangle, before turning around two days later and running back south. In their wake, they left an eerie silence and had everyone hypothesizing on what had just happened. Everything about it was unpredictable and unexpected.
It appears, however, as though some sort of order has been restored in this part of the world. Tens of thousands of wildebeest and zebra are now moving steadily into the Mara, crossing the Sand River, from the Serengeti. There is energy of expectation in the air – this time the dramatic crossings of the Mara River have begun…

High season: A good bookings record is showing a promising trend for July & August. China seems to be the leading nation to support our high season. We definitely need support from other corners of the world for September & beyond, when the Chinese will have come and gone – till next July.
The Great Wildebeest Migration from the Serengeti to Masai Mara has been reported to arrive late in July, due to the prolonged rains of April – June on Tanzanian side. The rains turned the Serengeti green slowing the migration to Kenya. Even so, we are double sure they will sooner or later make their annual journey. Just during this period, tourists’ arrivals into Kenya are bound to hit over 500,000, and JACKO AFRICA SAFARIS deserves to host quite a considerable fraction of these.

NAIROBI NAMED THIRD BEST WORLD DESTINATION FOR 2018!
January 11th 2018, Trip Advisor has placed Nairobi among the top 10 world destinations for 2018. The Kenyan capital came third after Ishigaki in Japan and Kapaa in Hawaii. Halifax (Canada) came fourth followed by Gdansk (Poland), San Jose (Costa Rica), Riga (Latvia), Rovinj (Croatia), Nerja (Spain) and Casablanca (Morocco) wrapping up the top 10 list.
According to the company’s website, the winners were decided using an algorithm that measures the year-on-year increase in positive Trip Advisor ratings for restaurants, hotels and attractions, plus the number of destination bookings compared to previous years.
Trip Advisor describes Nairobi as an interesting place to visit for urban explorers due to the many holiday spots for globe-trotters seeking something different. Nairobi is known as the safari capital of Africa or the City in the Sun, the main reasons being its weather conditions, wildlife and nightlife. “Nairobi is an energetic, modern city that serves as a fascinating introduction to both wildlife and nightlife,” the website states. “Music clubs pulse with life, shops and markets bustle, and a variety of restaurants will tempt your palate in this former Maasai watering hole.”
According to the site, the top sights in Nairobi include the Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe Centre and Nairobi National Park which has black rhinos.
KENYA AIRWAYS LAUNCHES NON-STOP NEW YORK FLIGHTS!
January 11th 2018, Kenya Airways marked a milestone with the launch of a non-stop flight from Nairobi to New York earlier this month. Kenya’s national carrier has started selling tickets for the inaugural flight which is scheduled for October 28th this year.
Kenya Airways, which already serves Africa, Europe, Middle-East, Indian sub-continent and Asia becomes the first airline to offer a non-stop flight between East Africa and the United States of America. The opening of the US destination completes an essential piece for Kenya Airways’ network, cementing its position as one of the leading African carriers.
“This is an exciting moment for us. It fits within our strategy to attract corporate and high-end tourism traffic from the world to Kenya and Africa. We are honored to contribute to the economic growth of Kenya and East Africa.” said Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO Sebastian Mikosz.
With over 40 American multinationals located in Nairobi and many more across Africa, the launch of daily flights is expected to further spur trade between America and Africa. Kenya Airways will offer its customers a unique travel experience between two great gateways. It will be the fastest connection from East Africa to New York, with a 15 hours duration eastbound and 14 hours westbound. The airline will operate its Boeing 787 Dreamliner with a capacity of 234 passengers in both business and economy class.
The flight will depart daily from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport hub in Nairobi at 23:25 PM arriving at JFK airport in New York at 06:25 AM the following day. From New York it will depart at 12:25 PM landing at JKIA at 10:55 AM the following day. The ultra-long-haul flight, unique to Kenya Airways network, will operate with 4 cockpit crew and 12 cabin crew and will burn 85 tons of fuel each way.

April 06th 2017: Kenya Approved for Direct Flights from the US: Kenya received a safety certification this month from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration that will allow its airlines to apply for non-stop flights to U.S. Airports. Non-stop flights would cut hours off the lengthy journey between the two nations, and provide a major boost to Kenya’s tourism industry. Kenya Airways said it would begin work immediately to establish new routes.
May 06th 2017: Announcement on immediate increase in price of gorilla permits in Rwanda: On this date, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) announced that there will be an immediate increase (effective henceforth) in the price of a gorilla permit in Rwanda from US $750 to US $1,500 per person. We do not have any further details at the moment. We will issue further updates as more details emerge.
June 06th 2017: Kenya gets Standard Gauge Railway fast passenger trains. It’s one week, since the flag-off ceremony was presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Madaraka Day. The modern diesel haul trains are capable of running from Nairobi to Mombasa is a matter of 4 hours. No doubt – first class is Tourist Class we hope to utilize at less than half the price of plane flight.

Conservation News:
April 30th 2016: Over one hundred tones of elephant ivory are set to be blazed! This is in line with Kenya’s commitment to the international ban on ivory trade. Part of the stock pile of ivory was confiscated from poachers and traffickers, whereas part was collected over years from naturally dead elephants.
West Africa Marks end of Ebola …
June 01st 2016: The World Health Organization declared an end to Ebola Cases in Guinea – where it first broke out in December 2013. Sierra Leone had been declared free of Ebola on March 17th 2016. Today, June 09th 2016: Monrovia (AFP) – Liberia said Thursday it was free of Ebola, meaning there are now no known cases in West Africa of this tropical virus.

Low season: An increasing number of visitors are realizing that April to June is ideal travel time, benefiting from lower visitor numbers and off-peak airlines rates. Unlike so many petty companies, we remain in operation and get you to your itinerary’s destination to see our animals.
The long awaited rains are with us – no damages to the roads of our national parks and reserves have been reported. With the announced visit of US President Obama to Kenya in July 2015, let’s hope this will convince more of our US and European clients that Kenya is still one of the best wildlife destination on the African Continent.
Not Jacko Africa Safaris shall host President Obama’s visit – we wish we could – but we value his coming as one of the greatest honor and privilege to our nation. Jacko Africa Safaris – Ebola Statement
As we sadly watch the great loss of human lives Ebola has inflicted on West Africa, we would like to express our deepest sympathies.
There is little doubt the whole world has been gripped with fear that all Africa is 100% affected by this dreaded epidemic – whereas, if it were correctly reported, and handled, we would have been finding solutions by now. Here we wish to articulate our sincere position on this issue.
At this point in time there are no reported or confirmed cases of Ebola in our region of East Africa, ie Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and further south: Seychelles, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, etc! There is absolutely no danger, in addition to the fact that we remain further away from the “affected zone” than many of our potential guest’s homes.
Kenya Airways, the major regional airline, suspended all flights to / from West-Africa back in August 2014 at the request of the Kenyan Ministry of Health, and entry has been suspended for passengers travelling from and through Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. All East & Southern African nations have taken increased observation action at their international airports and border posts to ensure no spread of the epidemic to our region.
With the good news this week from Nigeria, the first country bordering the troubled region to have effectively eradicated the virus, individuals, institutions, governments here remain double focused, determined and alert to prevent any potential risk. Sorry to poor reporting, which has painted the wrong picture, but I can positively assure you that our region of East & Southern Africa, where we operate, is Ebola free as we speak.
Additionally, if still in any further doubt, we strongly advise our guests to take out comprehensive travel insurance cover for any third party services included in their holiday. In the event of an outbreak (as defined by the World Health Organization), Jacko Africa Safaris shall endeavor to assist in ensuring that our guests do not totally get affected by any cancellation penalties.
We trust that the above will provide some guidance, assurance, and re-assurance to help our guests overcome your concerns, while booking your safaris during this last quarter of 2014 and in 2015.

Great Wildebeests Migration 2014!
End of June and early July delivered sporadic wildebeest herds across the border into the Masai Mara from the Serengeti. Thereafter, there have been daily crossings and many wildebeest made it to the savanna near Look Out Hill and on the Burrangat Plains. Progressively, they are making their trip to the northern end, and we shall follow them as they cross the Talek and Mara Rivers during September.
Meanwhile new terminal opened up at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA) Known as Terminal 4, which was test run in Mid July has seven boarding bridges, and will double JKIA’s annual passenger capacity. The new terminal covers 178,000 square metres and will have 50 international and 10 domestic check-in points, 32 contact gate, 8 remote gates, and an associated apron with 45 stands linking to taxiways.
On completion, the airport will be able to handle 20 million passengers a year capably remaining the busiest regional airways hub in East Africa. The value of a safari in East Africa has never been better as airfare prices keep dropping! Although, many countries have recently announced increases in park fees, upcountry accommodation, safari vehicles tax levies, etc, Kenya signed an agreement with Uganda and Rwanda to allow tourists to travel between the three countries on a single visa.
Note that, beside mainland Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, South Africa, Botswana, Victoria Falls, and Seychelles, we have several ongoing safaris available in the three countries. The world keeps spinning, as safaris in Africa also keep spinning …, regardless!

Kenya was awarded the Top Safari Destination in 2013!
Kenya got the most votes from travel agents worldwide at the auspicious ceremony event held on 30th November 2013 beating other competing destinations. Kenya is the original quintessential safari destination, famous for its sweeping plains, abundant wildlife and unique cultures.

A year gone by after last March 2013 General Elections in Kenya! We are hopeful that despite the many changes realised since, we will smoothly continue with our tours and travel business. Weather has so far permitted us to take out a number of safaris in Kenya and Tanzania. However, we expect April and May to be very rainy; hence we have slashed our prices to enable better sales during this period. Beach stays at low season rates have been popular, and I have no doubt this is a very attractive time for budget.

Scoring on MICE – a theme on which we now have very keen focus …
The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) market is possibly Kenya’s fastest growing segment within our tourism industry. This is not surprising since the country offers such a wide range of activities. Many of the coast hotels can offer sufficient rooms for incentives of up to 200 – 300 guests. Nairobi hotels can handle such numbers too, and at the same time offer a wide range of leisure pursuits ranging from casinos to golf. African theme evenings are no problem at both the beach and city hotels. Often MICE involves safaris – safari circuits can handle large numbers – it is possible to accommodate up to 300 participants in different lodges, say in Amboseli, and in Masai Mara.

Wildebeest Migration 2012
Wildebeest have been viewed calving now in January and February on the Naabi Plains in South Eastern Serengeti. The calving normally goes on for four to six weeks. Wildebeests’ Migration Watch: The year’s high season has set in and we have returned to the Great Wildebeest’s Migration. The early-birds crossed into Kenya from as early as mid July with signs of more and more to follow. Fortunately, there are also signs of rain to break the long drought which have devastated Kenya & Northern Tanzania. So the wildebeests have come in smaller numbers as they smell wherever there was rain.
Sure enough, the rains are with us in late August. Therefore only those which had crossed into Kenya were all – early September we experience exodus! The rains turned the Serengeti green cutting the migration to Kenya short. Even so, we have had yet the most successful season ever. Tourists arrivals into the country must hit a mark well over 1.4 millions, and JACKO AFRICA SAFARIS, has had a golden chance to serve a considerable fraction of these.

A great year, which given the world’s financial recession, has unfortunately started on a low key. As efforts are being done all around the globe for nations and families to remain afloat, we at JACKO AFRICA SAFARIS are optimistic that the gradual change from this situation shall bring in new ideas and strategies as to how to cope.

While our engines had dragged to a halt in the January to March period, we are now back on the rail and full of steam. We have run a record 6 trips in April and May, regardless to the effects of the political disturbances we had in the country.
Tourism in Kenya is back in full swing and we don’t wish to leave you out uninformed. It is time to for all of us to embark on our marketing programs for 2009 as all roads shall be leading to KENYA.
European Marketing Trip: Our strategy shall take JACKO AFRICA SAFARIS to Excel London’s World Travel Market (WTM) to exhibit our product from November 10th – 13th 2008. We are looking forward to seeing you there!!
From England to Greece for the Exclusive Tourism Forum, in Athens from November 21st – 22nd 2008. I would like to assure our Greek partners that this shall be the time to meet. It shall be so nice for me to learn about your great country as you shall also learn from me about East Africa.

European Marketing Trip Postponed Pending Kenya General Elections set for December 27th 2007.
Elections in Kenya took place on set date, but dispute reigned over the results of the presidential votes, descending the country into a brief civil unrest. None of our clients on safari in Kenya or Tanzania got affected by this disturbance. Our year ends on a very promising note, and we look forward to a great 2008!

This is to Thank You! It has been so hectic for me to accomplish the huge work load I asked for. Busier than a bee Jacko Africa Safaris and I have been since my return from the U.S. The High Season is with us and this is the time to score our best for this year. We are pleased that our JACKO AFRICA SAFARIS’ brochures are circulating in great parts of the United States at the same time we are registering increased requests and bookings for this season and the New Year.
Arizona: I travelled to the U.S on Swissair flight from Nairobi to Zurich, then over Germany, England, Greenland, Canada to Chicago, and finally United Airline to Phoenix. From the airport in Phoenix we headed south to Gilbert. My hosts were a very highly respected couple in the Mesa Community. Their home is a show piece of very modern housing architecture, with views giving to the Superstitious Mountain and I was told the story of the Lost Dutchman.
From here, I was introduced to the former typical Arizonian Cowboys’ Lifestyle at the Rock ‘n Roll Ranch. This was fun!! This evening Gary presented to me a George Short hat. Guess its colour if you knew George. The rest of the days were yet to be more exiting: Tortilla Flats, Canyon Lake, Saguara Lake, Sedona, Mt. San Francisco, Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Route 66, Flagstaff, Salt Lick Canyon, Scottsdale, and El Paso, Texas.
California: Larry and Bill waited for me at the airport in Los Angeles. I got to see and touch the Pacific Ocean. We visited the Marina del Rey, Venice Beach, downtown Los Angeles, Page Museum Tar Pits, China Town, Tokyo Town, Korea Town, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood.
We walked the long Avenue of the Stars, took photos at several celebrities’ stars, including Michael Jackson’s. There were mimics of Chaplain, Spiderman, Michael Jackson, Nightmare, Mickey Mouse, etc. I stayed in Sherman Oaks, a green valley suburb of Los Angeles.
Now it was time to move to Bakersfield. We took the north road. There was spectacular scenery as we drove up the highlands. From the summit, there was an excellent view of an endless agricultural plain. Bakersfield was the next main town. Upon arrival in Bakersfield, it was convenient to have a beer and a meal, before heading to Larry’s place, a very smart house in a rich suburb. On one of the subsequent days we did an excursion to Fresno to visit Larry’s cousin, a travel agent to discuss some business. Back in Bakersfield I enjoyed a visit to the Condors’ Ice Hockey Stadium to view the CONDORS play ALASKA in a match. This was quite a highlight! Music was full blast! Anyway the CONDORS lost at home!! …., but it was so much fun!
My next destination was Huntington Beach. A program had been set aside by my hosts Marshal and Joellen to visit Disneyland, which we did. Entrance fee at U.S $ 74 per person per day was very high. In Africa, that is somebody’s two months’ salary, or a child’s three months’ school fee. Doesn’t this tell how lucky I am! I flew in the so-called Soar-In Over California plane. It is a kind of chair on which you sit, and it lifts a few metres above the ground, then a motion-graphic screen pours on you as your sit surges forward and up into the equivalent of sky. You find yourself soaring over geographical and man-made features of California, including the city of San Francisco. You glide in the sky like an eagle for about 15 minutes. When you come down, you are dizzy and you need a minute to re-adjust to your normal mental footing. Sorry, I won’t do it again, though it was a thriller more than the “Pirates of the Caribbean”, which I had managed to do. In the evening, there was a spectacular show before we returned home. I have just thought that the U.S $ 74 entrance fee per adult was fair. It is because it gives you unlimited access to whatever place or ride you would like to do. But should you stop and think about how much money is paid in a day, boy you are talking about a hell of money.
The next excitement for me was to be the excursion to San Diego for visit to the world-famous San Diego Zoo, and Sea World. Boy! I got to see a lot! We drove south from Huntington Beach past Laguna Beach. It was convenient for us to have lunch, after doing a brief exploration of the city, including view of the grounded USS 54 battle ship…., a monster, now preserved as a museum in the San Diego docks.
The San Diego Zoo had interesting animals like jaguar, snow leopard, cabana (biggest known rodent), tapir, aardvark, grizzly bear, polar bear, mountain lion, mouse, elk, panda, dragon lizard and Tasmanian devils. There was a white python I had never seen before. It was not albino, but a sub-species from the orient.
Sea World was another day. I saw whales, sea lions, manatees, penguins, and rode on a roll-coaster. I am very sure and good never to do roll –coasters again. It was fun taking a 12-hour Grey Hound bus ride from Santa Anna back to Phoenix. I shall stay away from those buses next time.
Michigan: I flew United Airlines from Phoenix via Chicago to Detroit. Now I could confidently cope with airport security routines and airline self check-in. On arrival, I met my longest-time U.S friend, Merlyn and his son Jeff waiting for me at the airport. We drove westwards to Tecumseh.
Merlyn and Myrna’s home is a residence / condo on a golf course. Merlyn is a well-known highly regarded elder in the Tecumseh Community. He is a retired parent of a leading bank in the area. The long schedule he had put in place for me included talk to the Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh, Lottery Club of Adrian, Lottery Club of Clinton, Lottery Club of Tecumseh, Senior Citizens Club of Tecumseh and visits to a score of his best friends. Mrs Herrick as one of the friends donated U.S $ 200 to me to shop for my wife and family.
We did three excursions, one to Dundee, one to Frankenmuth, and the last one to the Henry Ford Museum. In Dundee we visited the Cabela’s Outdoors’ Outfit supermarket. I got to see a lot of stuffed American animals; bob cat, racoon, puma, chip monk, mountain goat, black bear, polar bear, grizzly bear, bison, musk oxen, wolves, mousse, elk and many others.
Frankenmuth is a nice Bavarian German – influenced tourist town in the north of Michigan. Here I visited supposedly the biggest Christmas Gifts supermarket in the world. It is certainly a very big place with so many tour buses stopping here.
The Henry Ford Museum was fabulous! There is also the Greenfield Park close to it. Now I knew why Americans are so much in cars all kind. I was told that the ex-presidential limousines I saw in the museum were real, not copies. And all had been supplied by Henry Ford.
Delaware: I moved to Delaware. My flight from Detroit landed in Baltimore. Dustin, my age-bracket friend, received me and off we set for Smyrna, DE. It was an hour’s drive. East Coast was fine to me as had been West Coast. It was more wooded! Dustin and Janine have 2 cars and a recreational mobile office bus! They have about 10 whippets, each with own name. The whippets were fun to have around.
Dusty made the best coffee I have ever had in my life. I had plenty of time to check and make many updates on my website on his super modern computer!! Then it was time for excursions.
Washington DC: One day we drove to Washington DC! I enjoyed this very much. I walked in the Arlington National Cemetery, watched the solemn Changing of Guards at the Unknown Soldiers’ place. Uniformed soldiers changing guard do it in no hurry. The panorama is spectacular. I saw so many tour buses at the entrance. We walked across the Delaware River to National Monuments: Abraham Lincoln’s Jefferson’s and Washington’s. We didn’t go into the Smithsonian Museum, since we had packed very far, but we drove past it, past the Capitol Hill, White House, Internal Revenue Service, and a lot more federal buildings. We had coffee in a Starbuck Restaurant, before returning to Smyrna. By now, I was used to watching the driving in the U.S and I think I can handle a wheel next time I go back to the U.S.
Next place we visited was Rehoboth Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. This was fine and nice! I remember a guy serving us beer in 6 small glasses he had lined up on a tray. Each portion had own colour – from dark to light – and portion tasted different one from another! That was America! I got to touch the Atlantic Ocean. I can now tell you that I have been to the 3 big oceans of the world. I was yet to see more of the Atlantic Ocean in Atlantic City and in New York City. But my visit with Dustin and Janine was first to be crowned by a visit to a dogs’ show. If one likes dogs, like I do, you would enjoy this.
I saw all kinds of dogs of looks; mean, funny, comic, humble, and shy, name it! I enjoyed the ride in Dustin’s Recreational Vehicle home. It was a whole bus, partitioned into seating room with sofa, corridor, shower with hot and cold water, kitchen with sink and cooker, flash toilet, master bedroom with King Size Bed. This one even President Moi never had! Man, life is good!
New Jersey: It was again time to move on! Dusty dropped me off in Bordentown, New Jersey. Here I stayed in Bill and Lucy’s home. For my welcome Lucy had baked a very delicious cake. A brief tour of the house revealed very expensive furniture, carpeting, china and wall hangings.
I settled in to listen to a series of activities Bill and Lucy had planned. There were to be three excursions in less than a week. One to Atlantic City, one to Philadelphia, (they called it “Philly”) and one to New York City, all of which I enjoyed so much! These are great cities!
Bill and I took a train to Camden, and then crossed the Delaware River on a ferry to Philly. In Philadelphia, we visited the Ross Museum. This is in honour of the lady, who designed the American flag. She lived here and her house was turned into a museum. We walked up the street to view other important landmarks; the Mint, City Hall, couple of monuments. For the rest of the city tour we took rides on trams.
The excursion to Atlantic City was as memorable. I saw gambling casinos, one after another after another. They have names like Ceasers, Taj Mahal, Palace, etc. I walked on the Board. It is called the Board Walk, an elevated broad wooden walkway along the Atlantic beach. There were lots of people, all with casino on their mind. It is amazing! It is so much fun just to sit somewhere and watch these people passing you.
Bill and Lucy hosted a dinner in honour of my visit. There were friends, many of whom were interested in visiting Africa. I was so grateful to talk to them about what I do. The following day we went to the Columbus Open Air market to do some shopping.
New York: The summit of my trip was New York City. We set off from Bordentown, NJ early in the morning, and the drive took close to two hours. I saw broad roads. There was heavy traffic heading into New York. The first view of the city’s skyline is awesome!
We approached the city and drove into Holland Tunnel. It is about two or so kilometres long. Above us was water. Bill noticed a drop of water that hit his Volvo’s front windscreen! Yes there was one, but not to worry! The tunnel was not to collapse today.
I learnt it was very expensive to park in a park house, but this is what we had to do. We made by Taxi for Broadway 42 to catch an open city tour bus. We boarded a blue one. The guide was a very nice commentator. He knew New York City very well. I saw high rise buildings and I doubted if they could survive a strong wind blow. There was this Empire State Building, and many others. We passed “Ground Zero”, the position of the former twin towers of the World Trade Centre. Our destination was the Statue of Liberty. We alighted at some point and walked to a dock. There was a ferry to take people to the Statue of Liberty, lots of people! We lined up for security check and through we went. The Statue of Liberty couldn’t be in a better place. I climbed to half way its height. The way to the top of it is no longer open to the general public.
This was as well to conclude my 50-day trip to the U.S. On May 31st 2007, I departed for Kenya as promised. All along I never missed a chance to promote my business, JACKO AFRICA SAFARIS, which is now ways off the ground and is VERY EAGER TO HOST YOU ON YOUR NEXT AFRICA TRIP. It is good to have big dreams, and I believe that God is with us!

With African Safari Tour Guide….

When Merlyn Downing came home from the travel agency one day in 1996, he had two brochures to show his wife, Myrna – one for a vacation in Australia and one for an African safari. It was Myrna’s choice, and without hesitation, she chose the Dark Continent. The African trip was 10 years ago, and last month, the Downing hosted their Safari Guide and friend for a visit here in Tecumseh. Jackson K.Wekesa has made many friends throughout the world through his safari tour business, JACKO AFRICA SAFARIS LTD, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Between 200 and 300 tourists per year travel to Kenya for the safari experience with Jackson K. Wekesa, many coming from Europe and North America. It’s an eye opening experience, said Merlyn. The Downings witnessed the beauty and dangers of exotic wildlife, and learned a culture and way of life much different from their own. It was the trip of a lifetime, said Myrna. Asked if she would recommend the experience, her response was an emphatic “Go!”
A typical day during the Downings’ 16-day trip to Kenya began at 5am getting up for coffee or tea, and departing at 6:30 for a two-and-a -half hour safari ride in a reinforced and customize van made for better viewing –and protection. Here in the States we go to zoos to see the animal, where they are caged for our protection, said Merlyn, but in Africa, the animals are free and people are the ones behind reinforcement. After the morning safari, the Downings would return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation, not to mention a siesta. With another around of tea and coffee at 3:30 pm, it was time for another safari tour at 4.00pm.
The Tecumseh couple witnessed abundant wildlife, including lion, elephants, wilde-beest, and hyenas .The topography was varied from open grasslands and valleys to tropical forest and bush country .The varied landscape and abundant wildlife was even more extensive when the Downing visited Lake Nakuru, where 1.7 to 1.8 million pink flamingoes migrate. Jackson said the migration of wildebeest is also a popular attraction. The event has taken place each year from July to October for the past 2000years, he said.
The culture and way of life in Africa is unbelievable, said Merlyn. A visit to a small Masai Village of 70 to 80 people was an enlightening experience. To protect its people from the wildlife, the village was encircled with barbed brush. The Downings paid a fee to go into a fund to support the education of the village chief’s son. Cattle live in the village compound with the people, explained Myrna. Merlyn recalls seeing a child gathering water from a puddle. The people there have a lot of strength, said Myrna. Their strength is in their spirit and they are happy. Want a Meaningful Vacation!
A neighbor recently introduced me to a new concept for a vacation, to a challenge and opportunity to make a difference. She introduced me to Jackson K. Wekesa. Jackson is his church name, K. stands for his father’s name, and Wekesa is his personal name, which means “Born during Harvest.”

We are pleased to begin this year with a lot of enthusiasm and anticipation. Tide is very good as we drift into this sea of unlimited opportunities of our tour industry. We are yet more able than ever before to take in any volume, but also quality of work from all over the world!
We would like to confirm that JACKO AFRICA SAFARIS’ plan for U.S Marketing Trip has been finalized. It shall take place during the months of April and May 2007. Jackson shall travel to Switzerland first, from where he shall arrive in Phoenix, AZ via Chicago.
He shall stay in Gilbert, AZ for 12 days from April 10th 2007, then fly to San Francisco, CA to start his 7-day Western Coast tour with stop-over in Bakersfield – CA, Los Angeles – CA, and San Diego – CA, before returning to Phoenix for a 2-days’ rest.
On his second leg, he flies from Phoenix to Detroit, MI to spend 12 more days reaching out from Tecumseh, MI. The third leg of his tour shall take him overland to Pittsburg, PA for a weekend, after which he shall proceed overland to Washington DC to spend a week in Smyrna, Delaware.
Finally, he arrives in New York City. He shall be residing in Bordentown, NJ for 6 days, ending May 31st 2007, to crown his U.S visit, before returning to Africa.
Besides accomplishing JACKO AFRICA SAFARIS’ business promotions in those seven U.S States, it is my profound intention to renew acquaintance with U.S citizens I have met while conducting them on safaris of Kenya and Tanzania. I shall further be most grateful to meet with any party, who would be interested in business partnership with us.
